It might not seem like it but the GT500 on the market has not yet reached full potential but we can still see some tuned models like this one with custom camshafts.
Nicknamed Hulk by its owner, this S550-generation GT500 has seen quite some coverage, engaging In quite some races, but it’s time Hulk receives some serious mods.
Its custom cam setup was suppled by L&M Engines, but before it, the 5.2-liter V8 has been gifted a few light goodies. The beastly engine received a JLT cold air intake, a catalytic converter delete, and a Beach Dyno ECU tune.
Of course, the car needs to hit the dyno during this visit at the shop and we can’t forget to actually check the real-world gains either, and that is exactly what you can see in the footage below.
The base dyno run was done with NT05 tires however those being almost stranded for life, the car returned to its stock Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber with custom 305Forged rims.
Now, the real output numbers, which include the crankshaft output, sit at 760 hp and 625 lb-ft, but using the good old 15 percent drivetrain lack to find out the rear wheel horsepower won’t cut it, since that defines the average automatic transmission, while the GT500 arrives with a dual-clutch unit.
Although, the owner of the car, reveals that, with the said mods, the V8 jumped from 682 to 772 rear-wheel horsepower, so we’re speaking anywhere between 850 and 900 hp at the crank.
Much to no heavy fans surprise, the modding won’t stop there, with the Shelby GT500 now set to get an E85 setup, among more others.
The tuning potential for such cars is inhuman because the engines come stock out of the factory ready to be tuned and capable of withstanding unbelievable power outputs over the stock power.
There will be more updates on the Hulk in the future as the owner will continue modding it and showing the world the full potential of the GT500 in real-world numbers and not just on paper.
