Rare Bandit Edition Camaro Heads to Auction with Burt Reynolds Signature Inside

One rare fifth-generation Chevrolet Camaro converted into a Trans Am-inspired build is now approaching auction, with one cabin detail drawing immediate attention. Across the dashboard sits the handwritten signature of Burt Reynolds, a direct link to the name long tied to the Bandit identity.

This car came from Trans Am Depot, not from Trans Am Specialties in Florida, despite how closely the names and concepts overlap. Only 77 Bandit Edition units left the Trans Am Depot program around ten years ago, which already places this example in a narrow group before auction interest enters the picture.

The base platform started as a Camaro, though much of the body no longer reads like one at first glance. The front section received a revised bumper, a splitter, gold surrounds around the headlights, and a split grille intended to echo older Pontiac styling. Above that sits a new hood carrying the familiar Screaming Chicken graphic associated with classic Trans Am models.

Changes continue beyond the nose. Fresh wheels with silver-and-gold spokes sit over aftermarket brakes. Gold striping runs across the black exterior and continues beside Trans Am logos placed on the flanks. Rear treatment includes custom taillamps, added exhaust outlets, a spoiler, and more gold detailing. One unusual engineering touch appears overhead, where removable T-top roof panels were added to the conversion.

Inside, the cabin follows the same theme. Seats were reupholstered, headrests gained embroidery, badges were installed, and door panels received detailed graphic work. The signed dashboard remains the strongest talking point, though the rest of the cabin keeps the retro idea consistent from front seat to trim surfaces.

Mechanical work goes further than appearance. Under the hood sits a supercharged 7.4-liter V8 rated at 840 horsepower. For a car shaped around nostalgia, the output belongs to another category entirely. The source notes the figure directly, and nothing in the exterior presentation suggests restraint either.

The build combines parts from separate eras, though the result avoids looking mismatched. At first glance, the formula sounds unlikely, a modern Camaro carrying cues from Pontiac’s most recognizable icon. Yet the proportions hold together better than expected.

One of these rare cars now heads to Mecum Auctions. With only 77 produced, signed interior trim, removable roof panels, and a supercharged V8 rated at 840 horsepower, this Bandit Edition arrives with enough detail to stand apart even before bidding begins.
