Gold Never Gets Old - Chevrolet Chevelle From '68 Packing Power

The second generation of the Chevelle was from the 1968 model year up to 1972. Throughout its day, Chevy gave engines as huge as the big-block 454 with 7.4 liters of displacement. An extraordinary piece of engineering for its age, the LS5 pales in comparison to the 9.2-liter leviathan of this road-legal drag racer.

Shawn Robert car, White “Sexy Sally” pumps out 900 horsepower on race gas and 1,200 horsepower with nitrous. Built by Beck Racing Engines, the 565-cu.in. big boy is linked to a very interesting transmission.

As the heading implies, the owner fitted 22-inch tires at the rear. Those are 22 inches wide, to be more precise, and the Mickey Thompson tires are also 33-inch tall. Of course, the 12-bolt rear end is intended to manage the massive torque of the engine and over-the-top grip of the tires. Beneath the sheet metal, you’ll also get an 8.5-second chassis that’s NHRA submissive to boot.

The FTI Stage 5 Powerglide can manage 2,000 horsepower, but the common curious thing about this transmission is that you have to shift through the gears manually with the help of not one, not two, but three levers! It’s a crazy build, no doubt about that, but the craziest part it out the rear.

4.11 gears, a Wavetrac posi-style differential, and two buckets seats are also highlighted, simultaneously with carbon-fiber garnish for the oppositely intact dashboard. Being the strip-slayer it is, the stock gauges have been exchanged for Auto Meter instrumentation such as the 120-mph speedometer.

You won’t find a rear seat in this Chevelle. The ginormous wheel tubs and unyielding roll cage take way too much space, and after all, what kind of person would accept to ride in the back of a no-nonsense drag racer?

The owner told AutotopiaLA that his lady called the Chevelle this way the main reason being it has a nice ring to it and Sexy Sally resembles the SS badging on the fenders.

The car is a legend, but unfortunately this is no street-legal toy, the beast packs more Horsepower  than most cars in this world, being especially done for drag racing and not donuts and other “street things”, the car being the creation of its owner and is probably never going to be sold, unless somebody else takes it over, but until then, meet “Sexy Sally” on the drag strip.
