ABT Sportsline returned with another tuned crossover project, though this one avoids oversized styling tricks and loud bodywork. The company started from the Cupra Formentor VZ5 and transformed the Audi Sport-powered model into a far quicker machine with production capped at only 30 examples.

The standard Cupra Formentor VZ5 already carries strong hardware from the factory. Under the hood sits Audi Sport’s 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine, rated at 385 hp, equal to 287 kW or 390 ps. Torque reaches 354 pound-feet, also listed at 480 Nm. From rest to 62 mph, the crossover needs 4.2 seconds. Cupra also quotes 0 to 100 kph for the same sprint.

ABT went deeper than cosmetic upgrades. A different turbocharger joins a fresh intercooler and a water-ethanol injection setup. After the modifications, output climbs sharply to 626 hp, or 467 kW and 635 ps. Torque rises as well, now sitting at 516 lb-ft, listed alongside 700 Nm. The tuner also states a revised top speed of 186 mph, equivalent to 300 kph. The factory version reaches 155 mph or 250 kph.

Curiously, ABT has not published acceleration figures for the upgraded crossover. So there is one missing number here. Even so, the performance increase over the regular model is substantial on paper, especially once you compare the top-speed figures.

Outside, the company kept the visual package restrained. Unless you already know the Formentor lineup well, spotting the modified VZ5 immediately might take a second glance. ABT mentions front air-intake trim pieces, a rear apron extension, and a rear-mounted wing. The crossover also receives coilover sports suspension, together with anti-roll bars intended to sharpen cornering behavior. Cupra-branded wheels wrapped in sticky tires finish the setup.

The interior changes stay subtle too. ABT added revised floor mats, a fresh cap for the start-stop switch, and trim around the air vents intended to separate this version from a regular VZ5. Nothing inside appears excessive. Actually, the tuner seems to have aimed for the opposite approach.

Cupra plans to build 4,000 units of the Formentor VZ5 worldwide in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive form. ABT secured only 30 vehicles for the “635” conversion. Pricing details have not been announced so far, though the tuner says additional information regarding costs and related details will arrive later.
